problem with checkout_payment.php

hi guys

I hope you can help me out as I am at the end of my tether.

 

the problem:

 

on checkout_payment.php the customer inputs text in the comments box at the bottom, clicks continue and the text shows on checkout_confirmation.php as should. So it appears all works fine. but when I receive the order email the comments text doesn't show anymore.

So i had a look in the database (table order, column comments) and there it shows the number 0.

 

I use version 2.2 from Nov 2002 and it all work ok until recently.
