davidstummer Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 i want to become a web designer, and a company are offering me a place on their CIW course for ?2000, ot become a CIW design 'pro'. is this a con? do many IT companies recognise this qualification? thankyou, dave
Salvo Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 In my opinion, to become a PRO in ANY profession it is not enough to have a certificate, diploma or degree. But it can be a start to become one.
mattice Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 I think it also takes something called TALENT. Not saying you don't have any, but in general companies are more interested in your portfolio then they are in your degree's. BTW: I don't have any IT degree and it has never bothered me ;) "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"

Make sure you know what you are getting though. The highest level cert CIW offers in the design branch is MASTER CIW Desinger. You have to take the following certs to get there: CIW Foundations or iNet+, CIW Designer, CIW E-Commerce Designer. You can take each of these tests locally if you want for around $100 each. Books can be bought on each test for around $50. If you learn well on your own you can save alot of money. Perdure - Transparent Object Relational Persistence
