altepper Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Hi to all Very excited by osCommerce...a question for the wise amongst you: I would like to implement this system for a small ecommerce site which already exists in php. I wanna scrap the site and use osC for a variety of reasons... I have coding skills (html and a little javascript etc) but little programming skill... I know these questions are vague but I am just looking for general answers to give me an idea... Should I give implementing the system a go and if so how much time do you reckon a small ecommerce shop site will take to set up based on my skills...just looking for general answers...will this work out of the box with 10 hours of work or will it require 30 hours type thing...? Can I stick any design on the front end...I presume the answer to this is yes...but I may be wrong... OR should I find someone to implement it for me...if the answer to this is yes then I am looking for London, UK people only...anyone interested? Cheers Al
Guest Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 How long it will take you depends on how many changes you want to make. You can make it look like almost anything - have a look at the live shops to see how different they can be. If you decide to do it yourself, then the chances are that as you look for the answer to how to do one thing, you'll stumble accross a great idea you didn't even know you needed. If you can spare a few hours/weeks, why not give it a go?
altepper Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 Cheers for that...will play a bit more and give it a go...
Guest Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 As free said it can take as little or as much time as you want. I know with on my server you can install it with 2 clicks of a button and everything will be setup for you.
mattice Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 A out-of-the-box install on a server that has the proper stuff running shouldn't take more than 10 minutes after uploading. Talking 2.2 here. Editing the contents / setting modules / adding products takes as long as you need. Changing the look by just editing the stylesheet and adding an image or two in the header shouldn't take you very long, based on your experience. Radical design changes cost loads of time and tuning. The designing itself always takes ages if you start from scratch. But you allready have a design (old cart) so it should go quicker. 10 hours should do it easily (judging on the info you give) Mattice "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"
