wolter Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 HI, We just installed osCommerce. All works well, but we?ve got a problem with the SSL installation. In the configure files in the admin and catalog folder, SSL is set to TRUE. However, we first uploaded everything to a normal httpdocs directory, instead of the httpsdocs directory. My question is: In order for the SSL to work properly, do we have to upload the contents of the catalog and admin folder to the httpsdocs directory? Or is it sufficient to upload only the pages requiring a secured connection, e.g. de order pages? A stupid question propably, but we?re new to this so you?re help is appreciated! Kind regards, Wolter
jdelgado Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Hi, I just wanted to add that I also want to know the answer to your "stupid" question. Perhaps it isn't such a silly question since more users had this same doubt, right? As for my experience with OSC, it seems that you can browse around your website normally and it only jumps to secure mode when you click on Checkout. So perhaps, and as you mentioned, you could just upload to /httpsdocs those pages involving the order process ... but I would preffer to hear some expert opinion about it. I'm a just new OSC user. What I've realised is that it is much harder to mantein correctly updated a website if you have some pages inside /httpdocs and some in /httpsdocs at the same time. Most of the times I upload "everything to everywhere" so I don't miss any file ... but that consumes double disk space and takes longer updating time, so my second question is: Can we just force everyone to use the SSL version from the very first time they get into our website? I mean that I would redirect everyone to https://www.domain.com/default.php and delete everything I hold at /httpdocs. That way I would only have to worry about just one web folder ... but first I would like to hear your opinion: what's good and bad with this option? Besides I would like to hear your comments about why I'm geting broken links instead of the product images when I get securely (SSL) to my site: https://www.railowsky.com/tienda/catalog/default.php Regards, Jose Delgado Jose Delgado - - - - - - - - - - - - "I wish I were smart enough so I could end all my posts with one of those famous and brillant phrases!" Guest Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Goog Luck. I hope someone answers your posts with a solution. I cannot get any productive help on this SSL matter. All the other posts (there are many) have not seemed to help. My httpS will not kick in automatically when it is supposed to either.
