JDWalker Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 This is really strange. I installed ms1 and no matter what I cannot update english.php through ADMIN, Define Languages. I can successfully update all the other pages EXCEPT english.php. I have the permissions set correctly, but nothing works. I even tried every possible CHMOD combination. It just will not save/write my changes. I even tried installing OSCommerce on another server but still have the exact same problem. Can somebody please help? Thanks.
Guest Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 when you say you are having a problem with english.php through admin, exactly what are you trying to change?
JDWalker Posted May 22, 2003 Author Posted May 22, 2003 Hi. I would like to change the page title (and perhaps some other text) and that's located in the english.php -- I know that I can edit it manually and upload it via FTP but it's driving me crazy why it won't write from ADMIN. I never had a problem with this until I installed MS1. I just can't figure out why all the other pages will write (shipping.php, conditions.php, privacy.php, ect) but not english.php. Thanks.
Guest Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 unless you have installed a contribution to control certain pages, all the language files must be modified manually and uploaded via ftp...
rseigel Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 I can tell you've never looked at Admin > Tools > File Manager Jeff. All I can say is...are you sure the permissions are correct? Do you get an error? Have you tried to CHMOD to 777 just to see if that would work?
Guest Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 no, i dont use file manager - i use editing tools designed for programmers
rseigel Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Good for you. Perhaps there are others that aren't near as smart as you that prefer to use the built-in functions of OSC (I too use other things. I just don't use that as an excuse to belittle others that don't though like you do). Just a tip.
Guest Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Mike, please excuse all the off topic stuff going on - please read past it and PM me so you can get me the file to look at 8)
rseigel Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 Is there a reason you've decided to become a bloody hero and take things off this forum and to PM? Who died and made you the end-all OSC guru? How is taking this to PM going to help anyone else in the same situation?
JDWalker Posted May 22, 2003 Author Posted May 22, 2003 Yes, I tried CHMOD 777, 755, 666 -- every option, just for the heck of it. None of them will write to english.php, no error message, it acts as though it has successfully written to it but the changes are never there. All the other files can be written, just not "english.php".
