Guest Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Ok! I know I am bald and fat. I was talking about my site. :) www.edataracks.com/catalog/ Let the flaming begin... Thanks, RicRogue

Kinky Clothes Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 nice site, lots of movement in the flah took my focus from the products, maybe stop the anim after it loops 2 or 3 times? good work :)
Guest Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Hi, I like the scrolling specials - I might include that if I ever get a site finished. I think you should work on the buttons to make them fit on the background better though. Generally I would have another look at the colour scheme - it doesn't really please my eye and isn't overly easy to read. Also I would look at spacing out your boxes a little better. Some parts are close to the edges where others aren't. In general though it does the job and the functionality is there and working - so good job.
HyperJack Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Not too pleasing from a design standpoint. - You should consider losing the Mickey Mouse OSC icons. - Your buttons (ie: 'button_login') have white backgrounds and don't mesh with the color of the boxes and page backgrounds. -Scrolling specials is wayyy toooo slowwww. - Many of your page titles still read 'osCommerce'. -The search button in the quick find box isn't aligned properly. -I would remove the manufaturer field from the 'what's new' page. - If you're in the US: your dates are formatted incorectly 'post code' should be 'zip code' -You have some unecessary required info on your sign-up page. (gender and DOB) Other than stuff like that it looks nice.
Guyver Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Colours don't really go together, ie grey/dark blue etc, and buttons need some 'cut-out' tidying. Apart from that, can't really moan about the standard look, we've all seen it before, but 99% of your customers aint' ;-) John
Guest Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Thanks for all your help, especially HyperJack. I have made a few changes. I will change the cartoons, as soon as I find some replacements. The colors are not my choice, they belong to the owner. All your comments were really great. This is my first time working with PHP. As I learn more, I will have more courage to go beyond the "oscommerce" look and feel. Thanks again, RicRogue

HyperJack Posted May 22, 2003 Posted May 22, 2003 To change the order of your address fields to read: City State Zip Country ---------------------------------------------------- Change 'Post Code' to 'Zip Code': /includes/languages/english.php (Catalog & Admin) look for: define('ENTRY_POST_CODE', 'Post Code:'); And change it to 'Zip Code' -------------------------------------------------------- Format date to match US: (same 'english.php' file) look for: define('DATE_FORMAT_LONG', And change the string to read: define('DATE_FORMAT_LONG', '%A, %B %d, %Y');

I even talked the site owner into lightening the colors. Check it out. I'm still modifying it. I don't expect it to be really live for a week or so. I still have lots of product to enter. Thanks Again, RicRogue
CC Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 IMO the colours dont go together and the site looks very broken up, not fluent. The header, flash banner, is very big and too distracting, and no need for so much movement in it in my opinion. The background just does not go, it should be something that is there, but not so obvious to visitors, make the background subtle. CC.
