loxly Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Let me know what you think... Work in progress... Almost ready. There are things I *know* need to be fixed but lets see if you can spot them :) There are other elements I am just not sure of, so be brave and toast me on them. This shop has a complilation of things from a variety of people on the forums, just to acknowledge that I can't take credit for it all :!: Big, big thanks to my daughter (who lurks), Kim (who flew the coop (I mean that in a NICE way) Birdbrain), and Linda the coding Diva. Attributes have not been copied to all products yet, quantity pricing isn't finished yet, many more products to be added, been scanning photos on a P3 sitting next to the "real" computer that has been grumbling and groaning all weekend. Still to be added, affiliate program, possibly a rep program, definitely a wholesale program, freebies will be up by tomorrow, the new GV/CC/DC as soon as Ian posts the new one and a couple of surprizes. So for now, tell me if you like the look, feel and ambiance.... Place orders, test the cart, the attributes, the quantity discounts. We aren't live you won't be charged! Chocoholics beware!!!!! Guest Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Description sounds interesting.. However without a link, there is no way to back that up. ;)

Guest Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Looks good. However there is an error that I see... Since your site is in frames, I can't just give you a link so I will have to describe it and hope you find it. On the homepage click on chocolate. You should get a page with a picture of Brooklyn (I suppose, have never been to New Yorkl) and a link next to it. The link appears to be a image name. Now if you click on that or the image, to go to the product details, you will see the error.
rseigel Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Why the frame? I personally find that annoying when I go to a site. I like to see where I am and you're taking that away and telling me what I can and can't see. Onward.... Kill the counter. Nobody cares how many others before them have been there and it makes it look amateurish. You must have some sort of error with Product Attributes. 1054 - Unknown column 'pa.product_attributes_one_time' in 'field list' select pov.products_options_values_id, pov.products_options_values_name, pa.options_values_price, pa.price_prefix, pa.products_attributes_units, pa.products_attributes_units_price, pa.attributes_display_only, pa.product_attributes_one_time, pa.products_attributes_weight, pa.products_attributes_weight_prefix from products_attributes pa, products_options_values pov where pa.products_id = '716' and pa.options_id = '3' and pa.options_values_id = pov.products_options_values_id and pov.language_id = '1' order by pa.products_options_sort_order, pa.options_values_price [TEP STOP] The logo in the header looks more like a banner than a logo IMO. Why not stretch it across the entire header rather than the way it is? The Coolmenu contribution would make a nice addition IMHO. The "login" button is a tad big and ugly IMO (sorry...you did say "toast") :P (hmm...in looking further all the buttons need work IMHO....I think it's not so much the buttons as the button text. Try a different and bigger font). The product pics are good but why have them all different sizes? Makes it look sloppy. Pick a size and stick with it (I personally like 100x100 but as long as they're all the same it should be fine). I always nuke the product notifications when I do a site. It's a silly feature of OSC IMO. That's it for now.... :D
loxly Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 Sorry, the "invisible frame" has a purpose for the future and it will go away in about a week :), before we are live. For now here is the real link. http://cool-nets.com/nycgifts/default.php The buttons are one of the things I know they need to be resized. Do you think bigger font or just smaller buttons for the smaller text and bigger buttons for the longer text? I should have checked the files with the product database name change before I uploaded  I'm between loads of laundry and the laundromat closes soon, so I'll be back and fix it asap! Thanks for the comments so far! [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]
loxly Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 Got another 15 minutes before I have to go back :) More about the pictures. There isn't any way to make them all the same size. They are all different dimensions, different shapes. I have the image resize set to make them all the same width. The candles and things will not be the keynote of the site, they are "filler". The keynote products are the photos, hopefully the photos on chocolates :) , in quantity. The chocolatier is already getting lots of requests for photos of nyc on chocolates, so we are taking it up a notch, as they say. And if you saw the site she was making the current sales on you would have a cow. Not even an online order form, let alone a shopping cart! So I have high hopes for this project..... And I want it to look VERY good when it launches.... (there is a second site close behind that focuses on custom candy and not on photos on stuff - a much more "fun" site) [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]
rseigel Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 What do you use for image editing? If you use Photoshop you can do wonders with the rubber stamp tool to make the images all the same size. (I'm sure other progs have a comparable tool...I just use Photoshop exclusively though so I don't know for sure.)
phelan Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Hi there, how are you? I'm Michael, Phelan and I own www.malewitch.com and I really appreciate the fact that you came to visit our website and gave us some input, thank you! That?s really what we needed. You suggested to get rid off the line that says, ?Let?s see what we have here? and now I know what you mean, I saw that part on your site and I have to say it?s much better!! I wanted to do that but I couldn?t figure out, some suggestions? What files I need to edit? I also noticed that on your site: ? The pages still have the ?osCommerce? title, don?t forget to change that. ? I think when you display the list of products you should have at least a small button that?d say ?add to cart?, some people don?t realize that they have to press ENTER and some old browsers do not submit the form when pressing enter. ? Wait I just scrolled down and I noticed that ?add to cart? button, In my opinion I think that?s a little confusing, most people are used to having that button right next to the item, instead of scrolling all the way down, you can?t see it when you are looking at a page with a lot of products. ? I like that you?re keeping a running total for the shopping cart at the top of the page, how about making it bold? And make it stand out. ? I think the category list on the left side is very good. Thank You! Michael www.malewitch.com
loxly Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 Thanks Michael! You pointed out a bunch of those "clean up" things that it takes a second pair (or more) of eyes to see :) Also, the categories page will be changing, probably later tonight or tomorrow night. Ron: I'll fix up those buttons :) Kim designed the template and I want to do them justice ... I just recently started using Photoshop 7 and I'm loving it! There a lot of toys hiding in there and in Fireworks MX ... I downloaded a crapload of free filters, actions etc over the last 2 days, thank goodness for my new 250 GIG hard drive! My laptop's 20G is bulging!!! [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]

Sorry Ron, the images aren't gonna be the same size :) I stand by my artistic integrety ... :?: Another question for those that would like to share an opinion, I will be separating the photos out into categories under the b/w, color. and sepia categories, they will be separated into the obvious like Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, WTC, Bridges, but are there others you think I should have? loxly Posted May 19, 2003 Author Posted May 19, 2003 You suggested to get rid off the line that says, ?Let?s see what we have here? and now I know what you mean, I saw that part on your site and I have to say it?s much better!! I wanted to do that but I couldn?t figure out, some suggestions? What files I need to edit? Look in includes/languages/english.php I think that's where it is. I often have to browse several language files to find what I need to fix. I think when you display the list of products you should have at least a small button that?d say ?add to cart?, some people don?t realize that they have to press ENTER and some old browsers do not submit the form when pressing enter. There are going to be attributes on each product, so the add to cart from the category page will go away altogether. [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]
zlack Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 when you sign up for a new account, you still see the osc colors (the blue) why not change that as well, to merge it more into the site? however nice job! greetz, zlack It's easier to remember, then to forget
