wwwclaes Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 Well, maybe not ;-) But I would at least like to see Google spider more pages than default.php which has been the case since I registered the store a few months ago... We have User Tracking installed and have seen many times now that Google only hits the main page and since we seldom or never appear on Google I'm suspecting it excludes us for some reason or simply does not traverse the site for some reason. For instance, if I search for a rare combination of words that appear on our first page, Google reports no hits at all. Shouldn't we come up then no matter our page ranking? We have the Meta Tags contribution installed (although its use for Google seems limited), an All products page with (hidden) links from the header and footer. We have also installed the SID killer that is based on an array of User Agents. However, I'm not sure if that one works but let's leave that to another thread maybe... Anyway, I believe something is not working as it should and don't know how to continue. A high search ranking is vital of course. I would be greatful if someone knows what might be wrong. For those interested in looking at the site, look in my personal profile. Thanks! /Claes

wwwclaes Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 Can a reply BE quicker than that? :-) The site is... www.nutritionstore.se It's in Swedish. /Claes
wwwclaes Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 And by the way... can a site BE slower than ours? :-( Sorry about that, I'll have to ask our web host about that issue. Maybe Google just gets bored on us...
wizardsandwars Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 Yeah, something's seriously wrong with your site. I'm on a cable modem, and it's taken well over a minute so far. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. Guest Posted May 13, 2003 Posted May 13, 2003 It loaded fine for me, so I ran it through submitplus- Loading time results for: http://www.nutritionstore.se/ Loading test content results Number of graphics/scripts: 45 Total graphics size: 60663 bytes Total HTML size: 21234 bytes Total page size: 81897 bytes Load time by modem speed Modem speed: Download time: 14.4k 49.51 seconds 28.8k 26.75 seconds 56k 15.59 seconds ISDN (128k) 9.12 seconds T1 (1.44 MB) 4.47 seconds Warning!: Your loading time is not bad... However, a top performing web site will load under 14 seconds at 28.8k. can't help with google though. :dontgetit:
HyperJack Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Your site loaded very fast for me (DSL). To improve speed, you can turn off counting in 'application_top.php'. Also, try creating indexes on your tables if you haven't. If it's still slow for people, talk to your hosting service. There's no reason for your site to lag. You might want to consider getting listed in directories like Yahoo! and ODP. And get as many quality links as possible!!!
Mark Russell Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 I plugged www.nutritionstore.se into www.google.com. No luck. I plugged it into www2.google.com and www3.google.com and you showed up at both. Maybe your on your way to hitting the main site. HTH, Mark
Guest Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 OK question.. I went to google typed in wholesalemn.com (my website) and it came up with 1 result but poor description. Something to do with my cart! Any Idea?
burt Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 OK question.. I went to google typed in wholesalemn.com (my website) and it came up with 1 result but poor description. Something to do with my cart! Any Idea? http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42704 Description in Google depends upon your search term(s)
wwwclaes Posted May 14, 2003 Author Posted May 14, 2003 WholesaleMN: Regarding poor description, see this post: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...ighlight=google About the speed, I contacted the web host and they are migrating to a faster connection this week, so my post just happened to coincide with a temporary interruption at the host. It works better (right) now. And last but not the least, I hope but don't think that I will show up any better at Google unless I change something. Google does in fact only parse my default.php according to the logs, and I can't find anything but the text on that page. Thanks for your help so far, all ideas are appreciated.
HyperJack Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Claes, you need links. I couldn't find any external links to your site. Here's a good discussion on how to do this. http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum12/825.htm
wwwclaes Posted May 15, 2003 Author Posted May 15, 2003 Well, so far I have (a modest amount of) four external links that I am aware of to the site. This is of course something I have to work on, and thanks for the discussion link! Though I'm not sure this is the reason why Google won't go further into my site than "default.php"... Ah well, I'm at the edge of giving up... Damn you Google!
Guest Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 Have you tried the contribution that lists all your products on one page, for google's benefit? You could then submit that page for it to crawl - might encourage it to go further.
wwwclaes Posted May 15, 2003 Author Posted May 15, 2003 Yes, I have allprods.php installed (and linked to from header and footer as suggested). But currently not of much use since Google won't follow my links. Though I haven't tried submitting that specific page to Google, just did it, thanks for the tip.
