Removal of header images

What is the correct method of removing the header images on the top right:

 

header_account.gif

header_checkout.gif

header_cart.gif

 

Are there any drawbacks to doing so?

go into catalog/includes/header.php and remove the line that has all the links for all three gif's. If I remember correctly the line starts <td align="right" valign="bottom">

For the time being I made the images blank, but it's nice to know how to do it properly.
