I have a strange emenant of code (--> )

which appear at the top left of the default page

just below the header

Hi

I guess it?s could be something with the /catalog/default.php around these parts:

<body marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" topmargin="0" bottommargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0">

<!-- header //-->

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'header.php'); ?>

<!-- header_eof //-->

<!-- body //-->

<table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="3" cellpadding="3">

 <tr>

   <td width="<?php echo BOX_WIDTH; ?>" valign="top"><table border="0" width="<?php echo BOX_WIDTH; ?>" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2">

<!-- left_navigation //-->

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'column_left.php'); ?><!-- left_navigation_eof //-->

  	 </table></td>

<!-- body_text //-->

....and maybee here as well:

<!-- body_text_eof //-->

   <td width="<?php echo BOX_WIDTH; ?>" valign="top"><table border="0" width="<?php echo BOX_WIDTH; ?>" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2">

<!-- right_navigation //-->

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'column_right.php'); ?>

<!-- right_navigation_eof //-->

   </table></td>

 </tr>

</table>

<!-- body_eof //-->

<!-- footer //-->

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'footer.php'); ?>

<!-- footer_eof //-->

I don?t know for sure, but i guess it could be here. I?m not sure!!!

/Marie

Hello Marie and Stuart,

Many thanks

Here is the code section from my default.php

I scanned it and couldn't find

</table></td>

<?php

} else { // default page

?>

<td width="100%" valign="top"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

<tr>

<td class="main"><br><?php include(DIR_WS_LANGUAGES . $language . '/' . FILENAME_MAINPAGE); ?></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><?php echo tep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '100%', '10'); ?></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

<tr>

<td class="pageHeading"><?php echo HEADING_TITLE; ?></td>

<td class="pageHeading" align="right"><?php echo tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'table_background_default.gif', HEADING_TITLE, HEADING_IMAGE_WIDTH, HEADING_IMAGE_HEIGHT); ?></td>

</tr>

</table></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><?php echo tep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '100%', '10'); ?></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

<tr>

<td class="main"><?php echo tep_customer_greeting(); ?></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><?php echo tep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '100%', '10'); ?></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><br><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_NEW_PRODUCTS); ?></td>

</tr>

<tr>

<td><?php echo tep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '100%', '10'); ?></td>

</tr>

<!-- BEGIN newsdesk -->

<tr><td><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_NEWSDESK_STICKY); ?></td></tr>

<!-- //END newsdesk -->

<!-- BEGIN newsdesk -->

<tr><td><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_NEWSDESK); ?></td></tr>

<!-- //END newsdesk -->

<tr>

<td><?php echo tep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '100%', '10'); ?></td>

</tr>

<?php

include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_UPCOMING_PRODUCTS);

?>

</table></td>

</tr>

<!-- BEGIN latest news -->

<!-- <tr>

<td><br><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_LATEST_NEWS); ?></td>

</tr> -->

<!-- //END latest news -->

</table></td>

<?php

}

?>

<!-- body_text_eof //-->

<td width="<?php echo BOX_WIDTH; ?>" valign="top"><table border="0" width="<?php echo BOX_WIDTH; ?>" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2">

<!-- right_navigation //-->

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'column_right.php'); ?>

<!-- right_navigation_eof //-->

</table></td>

</tr>

</table>

<!-- body_eof //-->

<!-- footer //-->

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'footer.php'); ?>

<!-- footer_eof //-->

<br>

</body>

</html>

<?php require(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'application_bottom.php'); ?>

I presume that for it to appear like that it must somehow

appear within the php tags.

I have commented out Latest News but have NEWSDESK in place

BTW I have exactly the same charecters --> at the end

of the last catogory in the NEWSDESK menu in column right.

Wonder if has to do with the NEWSDESK codes ?

Sorry, Marie :oops: , I meant to address my previous response to valley

valley;

Check here:

<!-- BEGIN latest news -->

<!-- <tr>

<td><br><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_LATEST_NEWS); ?></td>

</tr> -->

<!-- //END latest news -->

</table></td>

I strongly suspect where you have

<!-- //END latest news -->

(note the double slash in FRONT of the text)

Or it might have somthing to do with having php code within an html commented area? (I don't know...I've never tried doing that)

The --> marked in red below seems to be the one that is showing:

<!-- BEGIN latest news -->

<!-- <tr>

<td><br><?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_LATEST_NEWS); ?></td>

</tr> -->

<!-- //END latest news -->

</table></td>

<?php

}

?>

<!-- body_text_eof //-->

Try coding it this way:

<!-- BEGIN latest news -->

<!-- <tr>

<td><br> -->

//<?php include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_LATEST_NEWS); ?>

<!--</td>

</tr> -->

<!-- //END latest news -->

</table></td>

<?php

}

?>

<!-- body_text_eof //-->

In other words, close your html comment after your opening row, cell and break, move your php to a separate line and comment it out, then put your closing cell and row tags in their own html comment.

Or, you might just remove that whole segment

Hi Stuart,

The --> is gone but you have // instead "

The editor leaves the whole line uncoloued

// somehow doesn't comment out PHP, I am very

new to php and don't know the syntax at all.

Hello Ron

Many thanks for the right syntax lesson

The bit is gone for now as I deleted the whole

line (it was easy !)

I will put it back with the right syntax !

Many thanks Ron, an additional //

right after ><?php seems to work

<!-- BEGIN latest news -->

<!-- <tr>

<td><br><?php //include(DIR_WS_MODULES . FILENAME_LATEST_NEWS); ?></td>

</tr> -->

<!-- //END latest news -->

I wonder whether the unclosed <br> tag has anything to do with it?

Many thanks again for the lesson
