configuration file?

Recommended Posts

Followed a basic tutorial about getting everything working but ran into a snag right at the end. I need to edit the httpd.conf file but dont know where to find this file.

The tutorial i was following stated this:

If you have your own server you can make these changes yourself by editing the apache configuration file located at /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf

Add this statement:

DirectoryIndex? index.php default.php

To the <IfModule? mod_dir.c> section of your httpd.conf file.

Can anyone tell me how I get to this file in simple steps? I use cpanel 5 for my website if that helps.

Thanks in advance

If you have shell access, you'll have to login as root by doing

su -

Enter your password.

Locate httpd.conf

vi /path/to/httpd.conf

you'll now be in the vi editor

/DirectoryIndex

i

after pressing i you can edit text, insert default.php in the line at the end then press esc

:wq

service httpd restart

and you should be done. Hopefully someone will post a clearer guide, but this should work if you can follow it.
