Guest
I found this site http://www.softwarepalace.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/87 Definitely built using OS commerce, and its selling os commerce as a bundle with hosting etc but when you click on the link to take you to the products page it takes you to a product called shop in a box, which appears to be an offline shop builder like actinic, but the front of it is definitely OS commerce. So has someone built a offline manager for OS commerce?? Looks good shame they havent realised it as a contrib :( Shame looks like there making a lot of money from OS. If you manage the store using there offline programme, i suppose that means you dont have the online admin panel, and so no Copyright notice either?? Anybody else have any thoughts about this ?? orchard
If you look into other Open Source software like Linux, especially Linux to run on something other than a standard computer, you'll notice that Open Source and free are not the same thing. If these guys have customized osCommerce in some way to make it more usuable for non-technical people that don't want to or know how to edit source code I have no problem with them making money from it as long as they are following the licensing requirements from GNU and/or osCommerce. In olden times the men were made of iron and the ships were made of wood; now it's the other way around.
Guest
I totally agree, i have no problem with it, I would just love to see the offline manager thing they have done as a contrib :D I was just checking that it was os and something they had built. As for the licensing requirements, as far as I know they only have to acknowledge its OS in the Admin side, which has been bypassed! It looks neat!! loxly
If they develop code they aren't required to release it as a contribution, but it would be nice if they did :) Especially since the source code was free. Guest
Well i was having another look at this site as i was interested in there offline management programme, for clients etc (and this damn presentation i have upcoming) Anyway looking around i got more and more confused, as the offline shop creator builds a cgi based store which really confused me, so i emailed them and they sent me a reply. Somewhere along the lines there links got crossed over and they have TWO products HTTP://WWW.SHOPINABOOK.CO.UK This is the cgi based store that you manage offline, shame its not an offline version of OS  HTTP://WWW.STOREINABOOK.CO.UK This however IS OS just branded under there own name, are we allowed to do this? I have thought of offering OS to my clients under my business name, so as not to confuse them but thought it was against the GPL. Even if we changed the look of the admin? Although I wouldnt be charging ?699 for it!! Here is a screen shot of the Admin
