Iron Eagle
I have OsCommerce running on a Win NT server and I want to create a new store on a Linux server. Can I restore the Mysql back up into the Linux servers admin? Also when I try to do a back up I get a CGI error "CGI Timeout The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process" Any suggestions?
Guest
I dont see why you can't just move over to a linux server. If the CGI is timing out on you, perhaps you could log in to phpMyAdmin, or directly in to MySQL itself and do a raw db dump? The database is probably large and the hosting server isn't allowing such a long script to run. You could probably increase the time-out interval if you have access. Might be easier to just avoid the scripts and dump the db manually.
Iron Eagle
How do you increase the time out?
TB
Yes! You can change between Windows and Linux without a problem. I setup my sites in a Windows environment and then upload to a Linux server. If you're getting timeouts, try doing a backup, then upload the backup to your admin/backups directory on your server and do it that way. You shouldn't get any timeouts since the server will be loading the file from itself. HTH, Tony P.S. There is a gZip contribution which you can use to make you database compress smaller before uploading it. "The price of success is perseverance. The price of failure comes much cheaper."
