Guest
As Ramesh suggested, simple and plain. And I agree, please let me know what you think. Thank you, - Gian

Ramesh
but it needs to say what your site is about... maybe have a simple line drawn vitamin container . (those white little bottles) on the left or right ? Also I would swap the dark and light tabe colors use the current section (home in your image) with a dark background and the other sub-sections with the light background. Its just slightly tricky to read the text...remember has to be easy on the eyes ! Also I think 1 male in 20 have some form of color blindness , thats 5 percent of your male customers ! But I do like it ! Special Effects / 3d + Flash
Guest
Thanks Ramesh, i'm working on changing those things. But what part is uneasy on the eyes? Maybe white text on the tabs?
Ramesh
yeah maybe white text... I find the most challenging bit of a site is in the creation of custom /unique logos and bits. Its tricky for a techi with a creative streak ! I always carry a notepad around and find ideas from all sorts of places I see. Sometimes it take an hour some times days. Also with certain stores (like a computer hardware store) its very hard trying to be unique. But some stores (like a diving accesories website) are easier to design due to fewer stores of that type being around. I would chose maybe three colors two main colors and an accent color and go for that. But Ido like the current logo...maybe add a few images of different people faded in the background (young , old, mother-to-be, kids e.t.c, ) What do you think ? Guest
yeah maybe white text... Evan harder to read in white text :( But Ido like the current logo...maybe add a few images of different people faded in the background (young , old, mother-to-be, kids e.t.c, ) What do you think ? I tryed it with a baby smiling, but it looked too...... like a personal site, rather than a professional ecommerce store. I reuploaded it, LMK what you think about it now -- I added a rounded rectangle behind CHECKOUT and did some small changes to the text, does it look smoother now? BTW, thanks for helping me out with this, i really appreciate it. - Gian
Ramesh
It was no problem ! I help you someone helps me (Its good karma !) I like it more now ! Just had an idea, what if you drew an outline of people maybe in a mid-light gray ? So not a full photo but an outline ? What do you think ? Ramesh
Sorry, just noticed its a jpeg ! it should be a GIF or a PNG (unless it has a photo qulaity image in it.) This should make it smaller and sharper looking (What GIFs are meant for) Special Effects / 3d + Flash

Guest
Also, yes I always save as a jpeg (its a habit), then when i'm ready to publish it on the web, i slice it and save as a gif. 8)
Ramesh
the best method is to save in your applications native format (so .PSD for Adobe Photoshop or .PNG for Macromedia Fireworks ). Then publish (export ) it as a GIF or JPEG when your ready. JPEG is a lossy format....you lose info when saving , which cannot be later recovered when you save as a GIF. burt
I've just finished up a "Nutritions / Vitamins" type of Oscommerce Store, but I cannot post it up for review as it is not yet live. But basically what myself (as the coder) and the site owner did was to have the accent of the site on "healthy living" - so it has a good looking smiley girl as part of the header and a really well designed logo in "sunny" colours as well. It works very well, and is a departure from the normal "text only" type of graphics that are seen quite often... hth

Guest
I kind of shot for that on my first try (w/ a joyous face in the background) but it didn't look to good in the header (had to make it small) and I really couldn't find a good place to stick it. So now I'm going for the big professional look w/ the tabs. And hey, if worse comes to worse and it doesn't sell, I can take another wack at the warmer designs. 8) I've just finished up a "Nutritions / Vitamins" type of Oscommerce Store, but I cannot post it up for review as it is not yet live. Guest
Well, if you need some graphics and your not good at it: Stick to what your good at, programs like PS7 take a couple months to really get ""good"" at it. So I would suggest to hire someone, or ask someone nice (like me) to hook you up with some art. Hows the best place to start of creating a logo for Free?? Ramesh
Hi , yep gian2001 that outline figure you drew was what I meant. Maybe you could get someone to draw in pencil and then scan it in ? (there are plenty of people who can draw...fewer who are computer artists.) Save as PSD or PNG. Then export as GIF (for flat /simple colors) or JPEG for photographs /hi res images. Finally, I quick place to get some logos is: www.cooltext.com you type some text chose a font +size and after a minute or so the logo appears (like magic) on your screeen. Then right click Save As. The site is running a free photo package called The GIMP (www.gimp.org). Be carefull, keep your logos simple (too many effects look harsh for web sites). Good Luck ! Guest
Sounds interesting, I do know someone who is good at pencil art. I'll have him whip something up. Thanks, Warren Warren I found these guys a while ago: http://www.logovend.com I think they are a small outfit, but good at what they do. If you cant do the art work yourself, perhaps pay someone like these guys. Their prices are very small, and if you cant afford this kind of outlay I would make sure you have enough cash to get into ecommerce. That wasnt me beiong preachy BTW - that was just advice. CC.
ahealy
Your logo uses to many colours so it will not be suitable printing. You may want to try to to stick to a colour limit of 4 so your printing costs dont go through the roof.
