Philster
Hi, My site's almost ready to launch (26th April is the BIG day!!) and I'm already thinking about the next steps to take, in order to try to get as many customers buying from it as possible. E-mail newsletters are a great way of reminding people that you exist, and promoting any offers you have, but I think an email reminder service would really enhance osCommerce! It's something I'm VERY keen to look into, but as I'm only a PHP and MySQL newbie (web designer by trade) I wouldn't have a clue where to start. I do, however, have some suggestions as to how it could work: FRONT END * ANY user can sign up for a reminder (doesn't have to be a registered user of the site) * They choose the reminder type they would like to be sent by email, ie Mum's Birthday, Dad's Birthday, Anniversary, Wedding etc which would be pre-defined in the Admin panel. * They enter a specific date, and select when they'd like to be reminded: a month, a week, a day beforehand. * They could add any comments to this reminder in a text box. ADMIN * Facility to add reminder types (birthday etc) and associate products within the catalogue to this reminder. These products, complete with links, would then be incorporated into the reminder email that gets sent, thereby increasing the chances of the customer buying one of YOUR products for the special event. To be honest, I've no idea if this is a 1-day job to the PHP extperts on the forum here, or if it is actually a simple idea that would be very difficult to implement. But I think it would add an awful lot to the product, in the same way that excellent contributions such as the Discount Voucher have done. What does everyone else think? Guest
i know this is an old thread, but did you ever implement this, i am interested on a derivative of this whereby if for some reason as admin i need to be reminded on a certain date about an order that i could go into /admin/orders.php and somehow allocate a date and a message for that order and then when that date is today the server would email me to jog my memory ?
