merobertlily Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Hello Everyone I am curious to know how many websites are currently running Os Commerce ? Is it possible to know the exact figure with reference. I am currently doing research in open source CMS programs,That's why need this information.
♥kymation Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I don't think you're going to get anything like a correct answer. The nature of Open Source means that anybody can take it and use it, so there's no purchase record. Since people will try software and never use it, or use it for a time and then change to something else, even the number of downloads is not going to be anywhere near accurate. If you really need this information, I think you're going to have to survey website owners. I have ho idea how that would work. merobertlily Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Thanks kymation for your thoughtful reply :)
merobertlily Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 In OsCommerce site they have mentioned that 13,300 registered sites. Does this mean that currently 13300 site are running in OsCommerce platform ?
♥kymation Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 That's how many sites told the osCommerce team that they were running osCommerce. At that time. It's out of date now, so that number is worthless. Regards Jim See my profile for a list of my addons and ways to get support.
MrPhil Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I googled ecommerce platform usage and got many hits. Everyone's Top Ten list seems to be different, so who knows what their methodologies are and which can be trusted. Some may use search engines to look for unique signatures on osCommerce sites, while others may rely on surveys of site owners. Who knows. Note that some figures are counts of registered proprietary sites, and pretty much ignore open source platforms. Some are counts of downloads, which has nothing to do with which are in actual use. Don't base any decisions on what's the most "popular", as that may have very little to do with whether a platform gets used or is soon discarded. Find a platform which does the job for you. By the way, osCommerce is not considered a Content Management System (CMS). It is designed specifically for the task of selling online, and is not a general purpose CMS. However, it's fine if you want to compare usage against the shopping carts offered for various CMSs.
♥14steve14 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 You can also search 'Powered by Oscommerce' as see what turns up, but how to tell how many unique sites would be in that list I have no idea. There is also no real way of finding sites that have removed the above text. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
