In product attributes if a customer buys 10 items, how do I make it so that there is an automatic discount in the total amount?

I think you are referring to Quantity Based pricing and there is an Add On for it.

 

But if this is one product which comes as a single unit or pack of 10 you could use Product Attributes as long as stock control is not an issue.  

 

You can set the Product Price to zero.  Then add an attribute called SIZE with two options:

 

Option: 1    +X  where X is your price for 1

Option: 10  +X where X is your discount price for 10.
