Hi Joahm,

You will need to make a copy of your old database to plug into the new OSC store and then run the database updating sql files found in this addon: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/8731

The only thing is you mention a template, so not sure how that may play into the equation at all. Whatever the case, make a full backup up of all important files and database and store them in a safe place.

Note that many templates out there are still for very old (obsolete) versions of osC. Make sure that you have osC 2.3.4 (the latest) as a base, and a template that is guaranteed to work with 2.3.4. It's really not worth starting out with older versions of osC, as you will have more trouble keeping updated and keeping up with PHP version changes. 2.3.4 has bee around long enough that any template should be made for it. Further note that there are many unscrupulous template sellers out there who are not really selling "templates". They are selling almost complete replacements for osC, many still based on old versions of osC (such as the 2.2 series). A template that changes some CSS and maybe a little PHP isn't bad, but make sure you're not overwriting your current 2.3.4 installation with a "template" that is actually osC 2.2 MS2!

Download a copy of old store database. Save it in a safe place after making a copy for yourself to work with. Set up new site and use the copy of old database for it to run on. Don't worry that site will not work 100% properly as it database has not been fixed yet, but then you run the sql scripts in the addon package step by step in your phpMyAdmin and it should bring database up to working order for you. As always make backups of all files and data just in case, so can just revert back if needed.

Do I recall something about the password hash function changing some time between 2.2 and the current osC version? That could account for the old password not being accepted. There are instructions floating around this forum for how to remove the old password from the database (using phpMyAdmin), forcing the store to ask you to set a new password. If you tried that, perhaps you didn't do it correctly.

Be sure to determine whether this is the osC user password that's no longer working, or it's the "password protected directory" ID/password that's no longer working. If you're on a different server than before, it's possible that the method you used before no longer works, and you may need to use the hosting control panel's "password protect" function. Or, it may be as simple as needing to update account names and paths within the password protection files, as they will be different under a different domain.
