Site slow when high number item in shopping cart

I run a wholesale website on osc 2.3

 

and have found recently that site goes slow when customer start putting large numebr of item in car say over 200.

 

is this normal and is there way to make it better.

 

I have allready removed the box what's in my and has made a differnace allready.

 

So i am asummeing it has to do with number if item in cart.

What is actually slow?  Loading the cart page or the whole site?
