douglaswalker Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Hi there I often see things about seo friendly URL etc but I wondered since search engines now appear to be indexing using breadcrumb like A Product Name | Something www.myshop.com.au > categrory > category description of my coolthing How important the url actually is as the customer is never seeing it ( in search anyway) or on an ipad or mobile I only ask as I have never used friendly URLs and search engines seem to have no problem indexing me etc. (touches wood, crosses himself, turns round 3 times and kisses a rabbits foot) Doug
burt Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Search Engines have not needed "nice" urls for at least 5 years, maybe a decade... You are 100% correct to point out that URLs are no longer relevant to most search engines as they all show the breadcrumb (if suitably microdata'd)... However, if you have other methods to get people to your pages (eg, printed on a leaflet, tv advert, radio advert etc etc), then a "human friendly" url such as; site.com/blue-widget is (in my opinion) superior to site.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10&products_id=123
