ant549
I am trying to download oscommerce images (products) via Filezilla - none of my .jpg files will download. Error message - 'Could not start transfer'. Any ideas?
MrPhil
I've never heard of FileZilla (or any other FTP) refusing to transfer a specific file type. Have you tried another kind of file, to see if it affects more than JPEG files? Perhaps your server is having some sort of problem, or some security check is keeping transfers from working (how about your PC's firewall?). If you are trying to transfer multiple files at once, try one at a time to see if that makes any difference. One thing to remember with FileZilla is that "automatic" mode may not work if the file extension is not a recognized file type. .jpg and .jpeg should be recognized, but it might help to force "binary" transfer mode just to see if it makes a difference. Hotclutch
Download or upload? Maybe your filenames have invalid characters in them like %&/ \ maybe spaces etc
ant549
I'm downloading from the server to my local pc. Filezilla log says --------------------------------- Status: Starting download of /xxxxxxxxx.co.uk/oscommerce/images/xxxxx.gif Status: File transfer successful, transferred 1,074 bytes in 1 second Status: Starting download of /xxxxxxxxx.uk/oscommerce/images/xxxxx.JPG Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (nn.nnn.nnn.nnn). Command: RETR xxx_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxxx.JPG Error: Transfer connection interrupted: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted Response: 550 Access is denied. Error: Critical file transfer error ---------------------------------------------------------- so it downloads the gif file (oscommerce's file), but not the jpg from the same directory. MrPhil
Is your server a Linux system? What's your PC -- Windows? Is the JPG filename made up of anything other than a-z, 0-9, and _? Maybe you'll have to ask your host if they have any idea why the .gif file transferred OK, but .JPG went into PASV mode and then died. Is your FileZilla a stock installation, or have you done any unusual configurations (maybe JPEG is now treated specially)? That would leave only a problem/misconfiguration on the host end. I was having FileZilla problems with my host (couldn't even connect). I think it turned out that using "Quick Connect" rather than going through the long-form login process was configuring the connection in a strange manner. Switching login technique cured it. You might give that a try.
