Simple question -- password

I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question.

I'm using OSCOMMERCE, and taking orders.  I generally sign in as Admin, and the computer remembers my password.  Working fine.

I'm about to take a trip, and I want to access the Admin account on my laptop, so I can process orders from the road.  All I need to do is insert my password, which is what OSCOMMERCE gave me, qxbfX$ or something like that.  I have a file where I keep all this stuff written down -- but can't find it in the file.

I looked for a profile page to see if I can either view my password or change it.  Can't find it anywhere.

Any ideas?

No, you can't view it. You can change it but how easy that is depends on what version of oscommerce you are using. See if you have an administrators section in admin->Configuration. If so, you can change it from there. If not, please look in admin->Tools->Server Info and post here the version you see.

HELP!  HELP!  HELP!

I went into configuration and found Administrators.

I clicked on the red button that said password -- something, and it gave me the option to insert new password.  I did, and I got a pop-up screen asking for my name and password.  I have tried every name and password I know of, and it refuses.  I'm LOCKED OUT ENTIRELY NOW AND OUT OF BUSINESS!!!

The password will be the same as your original one. If that doesn't, delete the .htaccess file in the admin directory. You should then see the normal login page for admin.

If your browser remembered your password for you, you should be able to ask the browser what it is. For example, in Firefox you can click on the "hamburger" to get a settings menu, then Options > Security > Saved Passwords. Don't panic and try to change a password before trying to look it up.

Uh, so how do I find it?

Or, how do I find this other file?

I've got this sinking feeling I'm screwed.

Bgitme.

As Phil mentioned, you may be able to retrieve the password from the browser. If not, you will need to delete the file I mentioned. If you don't know how to access your files, then see if your host will delete the file for you. Once the file is deleted, you should see the normal login page. But if you don't know the login, then that presents another problem. You will need to edit the database at that point, which it doesn't sound like you know how to do. This is fixable without losing any data so you don't need to worry about that. It just needs to be worked through.

Thanks everyone for your help -- I have very good news.  Support at Hostmonster.  The rep managed to walk me through finding and fixing the issue, and now I have OSCOMMERCE back with a new password.

Whew!
