When adding address fields, how are shipping/payment modules affected?

I have need to add extra address fields (equivalent to 'suburb' or 'address 2, etc) for some international shipments. But I don't use flat rate, and currently my only payment option is PayPal (may be using auth.net in the near future). If I add fields, perhaps by installing Advanced Address Management, does that not complicate or break the request sent to USPS, FedEx, UPS, PayPal, etc.?
