viewing report of products purchased of products with various attributes

When using product attributes, the attributes are assigned to one product and that one product has a product id in the database.

 

Is there anyway to assign unique product ids, to a product with different attributes. So that if for example i sold blue and red tshirts, if i wanted to quickly check how many blue tshirts and how many red tshirts had been sold, I would like to be able to quickly see.

 

At the moment in admin "products purchased", if i sell a product with attributes, in the admin section, the only update is the the top level product, the tshirt. No distinctions between red and blue tshirts.

 

I feel sure there must be an addon for this as it must be required by alot of merchants for stock control purposes.

 

Any ideas?
