I have read some forums saying that i just need to update the data base and replace the file set to latest version. but failed to get how and what queries need run to modify my existing database to work with latest virsion Please guide me in detail about updating v2.2 RC2a to v2.3.4 latest version. The template and file system isn't compatible with your version of oscommerce so you need to start over. You won't lose any data in the database but you will lose the shops appearance and the addons. The first thing to decide is if you are going to use a purchased template or not. If you are, you need see if the one you want is for version 2.3.4 or 2.3.4 BS. In case it is the former, be sure the template says it is responsive. Once the template is purchased, you can install the new shop in a test directory and apply the template, or just upload the template files if it is a full shop. Then you need to covert the database so it will work. That can be a difficult process if you have a lot of addons installed. If not, you can extract the data from the various tables (all except the configuration and configuration_group), clear those tables in the new database and upload. Test the new shop to make sure it is working with your database. Then install whatever addons you want. When it is all working, replace all files in your current shop with the new ones and change the configure files to use the new database. This is a rough overview since there are a lot of small decisions along the way, depending upon what version and addons you are using but it should get you going. It should not be attempted if you are not familiar with making such changes. In that case you should hire someone familiar with oscommerce to do it for you. Although this is a community edition of oscommerce and not official, it is the best that is currently available. You will then have to make any changes that you wish to. Add any addons that you added. Add any new addons that you feel will make your site better than it was. Then transfer your old customer info and orders data to your new database. That makes it sound really easy, but it wont be. What it will mean is that you will give your old store a needed upgrade and update. You will be running the latest secure version of oscommerce. You will please Google as your site will be responsive You will make any users of your site with mobile devices very happy. You may even increase sales, but this is not guaranteed. You will save yourself many hours work and trouble than if you try to upgrade your old site step by step through the many many many changes that would be required if you did it manually. Your old database will need to be compared to the new database and many tables and columns will need to removed and others added The whole process should be planned as it is not easy to do. if you feel that you are unable to do this on your own, then get paid help. Go to admin - module - content and click on the install button in the top right hand corner of the page. You can then plat with the sort order to move them around. I have no coding knowledge whatsoever. I created a new 2.3.4 store in a subdirectory and duplicated my products, but I would like to maintain my customer and order databases. If you're lucky, your browser is holding a cached page with an old error, and all you have to do is clear your browser cache. Give that a try (or force a reload of the offending page with Ctrl+F5). You will need to find the instructions on exporting/importing or copying your old database to the new, and running osC level-by-level updates to the database to bring it up to the osC 2.3.4 schema. That's a lot easier than trying to massage the database by hand, or selectively importing only certain tables. You are taking the correct path by installing a fresh 2.3.4 (even better, 2.3.4BS community version), rather than trying to upgrade the files from 2.2 to 2.3. The BS version I believe is the current suggested 2.3.4 to use. It may not be as hard as you think. If you do not have a mega amount of changes or addons it would really be the best as it is such a big job to try to convert a site that is way back at the 2.2 version you are running. Just remember what ever you do make a full back up of all site files and database for your records before anything else as always to have it just in case. MrPhil Posted January 26, 2016 Share Posted January 26, 2016 You can use a step-by-step upgrade to migrate your database from 2.2 to 2.3.4, but don't try using the resulting "Frankenstore" to do business. The resulting code you're left with bears little resemblance to a fresh 2.3.4 install, and will not be easily maintainable and is likely to be incompatible with many add-ons. Better to replace all the files with a fresh 2.3.4BS file set. (I don't know if there are any DB changes from 2.3.4 to 2.3.4BS -- if there are, I think they need to be done manually). As an alternative method, there is an add-on floating around somewhere that will take you from any 2.2 level up to 2.3.something (it's just SQL code to run), and from there it's either manual SQL fixups or use step-by-step installation DB upgrades. Of course, first back up all your files and your database, even if your current store is broken. At least you can get back to a known state if you mess up the upgrade/migration process. If your current store is working, do your testing and experimentation in a test or private directory, with a copy of your database, so that you don't mess up your current store.
