First 3 items in shopping cart is free

Actually I should have said: How can I setup the shopping cart when the cart = 0.00 then it is not processed through paypal? Thus our customer is able to place a free order.

 

We offer samples and the first 3 samples are free, a request for more samples is added to the shopping cart which is $3.00 per sample. Now when a customer selects 3 samples or less and checks out, PayPal needs to see an amount before their order can be processed.

Aren't there some "quantity discount" add-ons? You could set up 100% discount for n=1..3, 75% for n=4, 60% for n=5, etc. That's somewhat backwards from QD normal usage, but probably can be done. If the order ends up with a 0.00 total cost, the payment should be bypassed.

 

Consider whether you want only the first 3 samples across multiple orders to be free for a given customer, or free per order. I would assume that you want to track a customer's history and limit them to 3 freebies over time. Otherwise, they would just order 3 at a time and never pay for anything! I don't know of any existing code to do such a thing, but it could be done (store a count of samples for each customer).

These free samples is just that a sample of what I sell, has no monetary value. These small samples gives a customer of an idea of what the fabric or leather may look or feel like on their sofa or chair. So their just choosing some different colors or textures/types.

 

It not expensive for us to have to give for our customers, but can if they order lots. Thus the small charge after first initial 3. 

 

Best if somehow if the shopping cart would recognize sum of 0.00 then proceed with the order without requiring payment or paypal.

There are addons available where the shipping and payment pages are bypassed if the order weight is zero or the cost is zero. I offer free downloads and bypass the payment page. Once the cost or weight comes above zero the normal checkout pages work.

Thanks very much Steve, got your module and it works great, just changed the logo a bit in the checkout page to match what my customer is expecting. Hope thats ok. I have several checkout modules installed, so just to simplify it some.
