Alex P
I haven't managed to install OSCommerce with SSL support yet. My Host company offers me 2 different accounts for HTTP and HTTPS. One is: http://www.mydomain.com second is: https://www.host/account/.....etc From the URLs above I assume that the accounts run on different machines. Given that I had a negative experience in the past with OSCommerce when it couldn't access the "MySQL" Database from the SSL server, I would like to ask you what options I have under these conditions. Thank you Alex -----
ixbiosxi
oscommerce does work with ssl, you jsut have to get the correct path to the ssl from your provider.... mine is on the same machine as other sites.... burt
Post (or PM) the two URLs you have (your saite and your secure site) and it would be a doddle to see if they are on the same server or not.
Alex P
Hi burt. Thanks. My host told me they are not on the same machines. Will OScommerce ever work on this platform? Alex -----
burt
Yes. You just need to get the host to allow database access from anywhere, not just "localhost".
Alex P
Hi Burt. My host said: "It will not be possible to link a database to our ssl as your hosting and database will be created on a different server." I guess it is not possible. IS IT???? josheli
that doesn't seem right. are they saying they don't host any secure sites that use a database?
Alex P
that doesn't seem right. are they saying they don't host any secure sites that use a database? That is right. Their SSL can't connect to any database. The following statement was copied and pasted from their email reply: "It will not be possible to link a database to our ssl as your hosting and database will be created on a different server." Any ideas please? Alex -----
burt
1) Don't use SSL for your Osc site, or 2) Find a new host. www.webhostingtalk.com has some very large, well used Forums for this. I've never heard of a host not offering database connectivity on SSL sites until today.
popstar
i think that my situation is simillar. I use a 'shared' certificate from my webhost. To direct to the ssl, I need to have my webaddy say securesites.myhostname.com. I added that path as my ssl path in admin, works perfectly. Never had any issue, check out my site if this didnt make sense, you will see the url change if you goto ssl mode. Good things happen to good people!
