General Question Ref Addons

Whilst looking through the code of certain addons in my site I have come up with a couple of questions that I would like views on if thats ok....

1) The mods have, in a lot of instances the authours name and their website URL, commented out, at the top of the pages - does this URL assist the author with backlinks in the seo for their site? - ie will this be seen as a link by Google.

2) Whilst I have no problems with these lines in my files, especially for current live developers (OSC Solutions, Club OSC etc) what is the opinion on removing names / URLs that are very dated and may point to nowhere?

Thanks

In general, the usual advice is that you should never remove or change any comments or copyright code that is added to any addon. Any comment in a PHP file is not for SEO purposes but is usually for those people using the files to email and say thanks, or buy a beer, or where to find a good developer (and so on).

Thanks Gary,

But that said, will google view these as backlinks ? and if so will they be seen as broken links if the url no longer exists?

Does it matter ? You can't remove these links from these files anyway...

Any comment in a php file cannot be seen by Google.
