I have recently build an ecomemrce website on a PS shop platform. I reached out to an IT company to manage my site, but they suggested that I switch to oscommerce. After all the work already done on the site, I am not sure if I should go with the suggestion. The site looks fine lafinebouche.com, but There are a lot of Ad-ons I would like to install but PS doest have them. developing these ad-on woukd be too expensive. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mark

Thanks Lambros,

Any suggestions on improving the site. PS doesnt have that many ad-ons. So any improvements will need to be custom made I guess.

the problem is mon ami that you don't have a osC shop and talking about other shop systems here would violate the rules.

unless you want to talk about migrating from xxx shop to osC.

i can just say visually you got a nice looking site.

Well, from the osC point of view it would certainly be nice for you to switch from PS to osC. You'll find that various IT consultants will often be familiar with only a limited range of shops, and will often push you to use one that they know. From your standpoint, if you're happy with PS, it would be silly to drop it just because your consultant doesn't know it -- i.e., find another consultant. On the other hand, if you're unhappy with PS and think that osC could do the job better, how much time and effort have you already put into PS? If it's just loading up product into the shop, and little or no customization, it might not be a great effort to migrate to osC. If you've done extensive modifications (custom code or PS add-ons), you might find the task too large. As I said in your other thread, go ahead and install a test installation of osC and start playing with it.

Hi frenchfood,

Here are the pros and cons I can think about

Pro:

Most of add on are free to download and install. Admin control panel is very simple to use compare with Prestashop, especially for adding products and order control ( that is what I feel ). Doesn't require a lot of trading to be able to operate the programs.

Cons

OSC doesn't have auto install addon function, you may need to install each addon manually. A basic coding skill may require ( at less you need to be able to read it). Shopping cart script upgrade is not easy when you have a lots of extra addon installed.

As you mention there are some functions you want add to your shopping cart, I suggest you list it out and people maybe able to point you to the right direction.

With some work you can get more or less the same design using osCommerce, then export out your products data as csv from the old cart and import it into the new cart db using something like Easy Populate, http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/7725

But if you are happy with your current site, it might be just as well to try to find a company that can work with Prestashop.
