INFLICT Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I've recently started fresh with a new install of 2.3 on my website. I see that there are many posts on increaing security and adding add-ons. However, I also see that they say in later versions of 2.3 security is increased and some of the older add ons are no longer required (such as adding the htaccess/htpassword which is now a build in feature in 2.3). My confusion comes when I see posts that have been pinned years ago and so I'm not sure what improvements are still necessary. I have changed admin directory, htaccess/thpassword, removed install files, updated config files. But are add ons still needed for increased security? In particular I'm wondering about using a captcha add on for the contact us and tell a friend forms. Have these issues been addressed in 2.3? Is there a post that lets us know what has been addressed? Every post I saw led back to a post talking about security but it addressed version 2.2 and not 2.3. Thanks for any feedback that might help, regards Rich.
Mort-lemur Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 First take a look at this thread: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/395461-open-discussion-on-additional-security-for-2334/#entry1688129 Secondly on captcha / recaptcha I have only found these necesary on sites that were the subject of spamming via the contact us pages - and the use of these can be a turn off to some customers. As far as general add-ons are concerned, decide what you want your site to do (front end and admin) and then select the add-ons that allow you to achieve this. Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... So much thanks for all the help given along the way by forum members.
