FTP Help

Hard Work Sports

Okay so I am trying to customize my osC template and selling a product through download, but people are just suggesting me to download an FTP. I downloaded File Zilla and to be honest I am clueless and I've been surfing the web for about 2 hours now.

How do I customize my osC catalog and get the .zip file so it can be downloaded through FTP?

Is FileZilla not the right system for noobs? It is so confusing. Thanks!

on filezilla at the top:

Host = www.yoursite.com

Username = your username for your hosting

password = Your password for your hosting

Then clock on the quickconnect tab

This will access your server (normally on the right of the screen.

Click on public_html and the osc files and directories will be shown underneath.

If you want to open a file to edit, then right click on the file and click on view/edit (make sure you have also installed notepad++ or something similar to edit the file with)

Make your changes then save the file in notepad++, go back to filezilla and click OK on the window that has opened asking if you want to re-upload the file.

Basically thats it!

Good practice to make a backup of files before doing any editing though!!!

Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... So much thanks for all the help given along the way by forum members.

STOP STOP STOP STOP! Exactly what are you trying to do here? Are you trying to modify osC itself to do something different? If so, wait until you have a lot more experience with a web site. If you can't figure out how to operate something as simple as FileZilla, I dread the thought of the mess you'll make trying to modify your site!

On the other hand, if you want to make downloadable files available to buyers, osC has all that built in.

I have it all set up. People are telling me to use an FTP to input the pdf into the file my customers will buy. I don't think osC has it all built in getting my pdf. in the downloadable product.

You would install an FTP client on your PC in order for you to upload (to your site) or download (from your site) files. Actually, your hosting control panel should have a file-upload capability, but you'll probably find something like FileZilla easier to use. Just out of curiosity, how did you install osC in the first place? A one-button installer from your host? It sounds like you didn't use FTP to upload osC for installation.

I am using iPage as a host for my website and I just downloaded osC with iPage's Simplescripts

STOP!!!

LET'S BACKUP A SECOND!!!

Combine files into one ZIP file using a file compression program such as WinZip.

An FTP program just uploads and downloads files to and from your server.

Combine them only if you sell them as one product. If they're sold separately, you would put one PDF into one .zip file.
