Mort-lemur Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Just removed Add-This and ran the cookie audit again - my cookie count has dropped from 43 cookies to 10 cookies !! with none being high rated (apart from google analytics) - so Add-This appears to be extremely cookie heavy and although it looks good it should probably be avoided (within the EU) Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... Mort-lemur Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 OK - spent the day trying to set this up http://www.saaraan.com/2013/09/responsive-share-buttons-css-and-jquery/ added code to template_top + template_bottom + stylesheet + added the JS files + the buttons..... Nothing at all - so Ill give up on this one and leave it to someone far smarter than me :) Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... Mort-lemur Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 OK just as I had got the other one working I managed to get a result from Add-This as follows: We offer a flag for EU support, which disables all of the cookies that are being set. The only cookie that should remain is for ScoreCard Research (ComScore), which is tracking the reach of our tools:(https://www.addthis.com/press/comscore-ranks-addthis-number1-in-distributed-content-in-the-united-states). To disable the cookies for EU support, you can add the following script to your page: <script type="text/javascript"> var addthis_config = { data_use_cookies: false }; </script> I wish they had told me this before I spent time developing my own version! It seems to work anyway - I added the above code in the add-this code and the cookies are all gone! so a RESULT! Anyone else care to test ? Thanks Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... ♥Tsimi Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 what if you are NOT within the EU? i mean to have these cookies is not good either in the EU or else where, right?
Mort-lemur Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 @@Tsimi Then I guess you could use the same code snippet - give it a try. In the EU there are laws since 2012 about cookies - so this is a must. ♥Tsimi Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 thanks heather, i'll do that. i don't know about these laws but it is sure not bad to be precautious. and reducing 43 cookies to 10 is always good.
Mort-lemur Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 @@Tsimi Try the attacat audit tool to see what cookies you are actually serving - its quite an eye-opener, for instance I didnt know that linking an image to a youtube video set 3 cookies Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed .....
