Rhys Jenkins Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Hi there, Before I start, I just gotta say that this is all very new for me, so forgive me if I sound clueless! When I first started my website, I bought a domain name that was long, clunky and unappealing. I bought it through the bluehost webserver and set up my Oscommerce via "Simple Scripts". During the time where I was learning to configure settings and get the hang of it, I decided to purchase a brand new domain name which was short and sweet and assign it to my website as a parked domain. (I didn't buy this domain from my webhost) Unfortunately, only the front page had this new domain name in the URL bar, and anywhere else on the website had the long and clunky one. Not that this really mattered, but I wanted to keep the same domain for every page for when someone was on my website. So me being picky, decided to reinstall and overwrite oscommerce through bluehost (which took me to the Mojo Marketplace) and once that was re-set up, every page I went to ended up having the domain name that I wanted, which was good news. This is until I visited my admin section - I logged in as normal, but everything I had removed and changed in the previous admin panel... still seemed to be there. But the website was completely different. It showed me listed products (the one's oscommerce automatically puts on for you) and in the admin panel, it showed me nothing. So I decided to delete all the databases and re-install again (remember, I'm really new to this) - I created my admin name, password and went to launch the website again... okay, everything seems to be in check -- until... "unable to establish connection to database!" pops up when I attempt to enter admin. Sorry for the long text, I just wanted to give as much detail as possible and I'd appreciate if any of you could help me! Thanks!
Mickyjames Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 On the new site screen: Servers > (+) Add new server. Window pops up. Server Name = Whatever you want to show up in DW Dropdown box = FTP FTP Address = ftp.yourdomain.com Username = your_username Password = you_password Root Directory = /public_html/ Web URL: http://www.yourdomain.com/ You may have to remove the /public_html/ after the web URL. Hit test and see if it works, if not, you have a configuration problem within cPanel. Hope this helps!
knifeman Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 When installing oscommerce, the install looks for a connection to the Db, but you used mojo which I guess is a self installer of some sort. So possibly mojo corrupted your admin/includes/comnfigure.php file. This google search has some results about that issue. https://www.google.com/search?q=oscommerce + unable+to+establish+connection+to+database
Rhys Jenkins Posted November 11, 2013 Author Posted November 11, 2013 Hi all, Thank you for taking the time to help me. My actions will probably get me in this state again, so I'll be sure to bookmark this page incase something similar happens. (which is likely in my case!) I fortunately had an I.T. expert over working in the same facility. He downloaded filezilla, entered the server name, host name, port and password and just deleted all the files (since I was looking to start again anyway). Thank you, all again for helping me. I appreciate it!
