Issue installing oscommerce

Hi,

 

I have recently bought hosting with ipage.com after previously using free hosting with 00webhost.com

 

I purchased a template from template monster as it was exactly what i required, i installed this and had it setup on 00webhost with no issues.

 

However, when i have tried to repeat the process with ipage i am having difficulties during the install process where it stalls when trying to connect to the database (building structure process).

 

After speaking with the support from ipage who were extremely helpful they say there is an error during the installation process and gave details as below:

 

helper: 20130430T174701: www.****.co.uk/catalog/install/rpc.php

 

helper: PHP Deprecated: Function eregi() is deprecated in /hermes/bosweb/web153/b1532/ipg.*****/catalog/install/includes/functions/database.php on line 98

 

Could anyone shed any light or possible explain what this means or how it can be resolved?

The template you have is out-dated and is not compatible with the new server software. I suggest you see if TM has an updated version of that template OR, you can choose to update the template to v2.3.3. However, I wouldn't suggest updating unless you have no less than an intermediate amount of PHP skill.

Your new server is running PHP 5.3 or 5.4, and as Chris said, the template you bought is based on old code and incompatible with PHP 5.3/5.4. They are legally obligated to replace it with a template that works with PHP 5.3 and up (some hosts are up to PHP 5.4 now), or refund your money. It's not hard to update osC to work with PHP 5.3 or 5.4, but you have to be somewhat competent in PHP to successfully do that.
