category depth causing products to not show

Hi

 

I have noticed that for some of my categories the new products for the month don't show on the page. This seems to be happening for categories that have a few levels to them

ie Guitars>Electric Guitars>Solid Body

if I click on the guitars category nothing is showing as new for this month yet there are products that are new for this month. If I move the product up a level from Solid Body to Electric Guitars then it will show up.

 

Obviously I need to change some code somewhere but what and where?

I have seen this error at some point.

 

Ensure that in all of your categories (be it a top level category or a sub-category of that or a subcat of that and so on), you have EITHER further subcategories OR products. In other words, any category can only contain products OR subcategories.

 

That may or may not fix your problem.

I have double checked and I definitely don't have a mix of products and subcategories. It seems I have 1 too many levels of subcategories, which I obviously need. Is there code somewhere that determines how many levels you can have?

I have done websites that have 5 levels and have not had any problems. Have you modified the code in some way that may prevent it from seeing your 3rd level.?

I currently have six levels of categories working on my test store and have not got any problems. The products in these categories show in the new products listings on the front page and the categories pages.

I am using a template so I guess it may be possible the template creator changed the code. Whereabouts do I look to see if the code has been altered?
