JustinS Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Okay, so after googling it all, I'm still at step one. I just need to change my store width to 980, everything else is seemingly fine - so not sure with else needs changed in the "grid" to make this happen? I found some generator and it's asking me for how many columns and the spacing and idk... anyone have an any fix to change only the store width to 980 from 960? Thank you!

♥bruyndoncx Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 yes, except that you can't divide 20px by 24 columns properly, why bother with 20px ? Seems a bit silly in my mind, I would expect you to find another way to work your design in 960px KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support). So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?! Find the most frequent unique errors to fix: grep "PHP" php_error_log.txt | sed "s/^.* PHP/PHP/g" |grep "line" |sort | uniq -c | sort -r > counterrors.txt
MrPhil Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 First of all, I would strongly reconsider going to 980 wide. 960 was chosen as the widest size that will comfortably fit without scrolling on many displays. Secondly, 960 evenly divides into many numbers of columns, including 24. 980 will not, and you will end up with some oddball combinations. If you went to 984 wide, that would mean adding 1 to each column, which would at least come out evenly. You're going to have to go through all the CSS looking for widths that are some multiple of whatever division of 960 they're using, and add to each. I see 30, 70, 110, ... which are 30 + a 10px gutter between, so it could become 31, 72, 113, ... (assuming a 984 grid).
♥altoid Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 see here or here for the second one, once there search for 960 @@burt also offers an excellent ebook that does a nice job explaining 960 and helps pull it together by examples I am not a professional webmaster or PHP coder by background or training but I will try to help as best I can. I remember what it was like when I first started with osC. It can be overwhelming. However, I strongly recommend considering hiring a professional for extensive site modifications, site cleaning, etc. There are several good pros here on osCommerce. Look around, you'll figure out who they are.
MrPhil Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 960 just seems so small... And 980 is plenty big? :) Seriously, what about people on smartphones and tablets? With 960 they're already gonna be scrolling like crazy. These days you have to think beyond the desktop/laptop to mobile devices.
