Installing new Templates

Hi all,

I am new to the osCommerce but have good experience of working with WordPress sites. I am trying to find a way out to install a template for osCommerce sites from the Templates folder. I know it can be done but am not able to make it work for me, am unable to find a way out to specify the location of template files to use.

Actually I have a site done by someone else [but he had removed the install and admin folders], the site does contain a Templates Folder under the shops default folder and have seen headers etc being taken from a template within the Templates folder. I want to do the same for my own experience and tweaking it, but am stuck.

PLEASE HELP!

TIA

Standard oscommerce does not have a template system, so if the version you are using have it then its an add-on or custom coded solution.

First check which oscommerce version you are using, can be seen in includes/application_top.php, then try to find out what add-on template system is used.

@toyicebear

Thanks for pointing me to something like where I can see the version of the osCommerce in that old install it is v 1.1.1.1 2004/03/04.

How can I find about the add-on or add-on template system which might have been used over there? I really need to sort this out but it looks as if am not even yet near this. Need the community to support me.

No..you have to look for something like this: define('PROJECT_VERSION', 'osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2'); to find the version.

Here are links to the 2 most common template add-ons which you can then check against your shop. (Both are only for V2.2 and not compatible with V2.3)

Simple Template System (STS)

Basic Template Structure v0.9

You can download any of the versions at: http://www.oscommerce.com/Products

If you wish to run it on your local machine for testing you will need to install a program like WAMP ( www.wampserver.com ) first

I have already been to this location, it contains a v2.2 RC2a and not the fully released v2.2 files, I did try even on github. I tried to install this version but no success.

2.2RC2a is the latest released version of 2.2. In the dropdown you can select earlier 2.2 versions for download if needed.

Where are you trying to install the files. Oscommerce is not a computer programme so cannot be installed on to your computer. Saying that, it can be installed if you have previously installed something like wamp. Oscommerce will install on to a website domain.
