Remove mandatory fields?

I am new to osCommerce but I have most things up and working. I would like to knowi if it is possible to remove a mandatory field when a new user registers. For example, entering a birthday is a mandatory field...can I eliminate this and not require someone to enter their birthday? What is this mandatory? Where can I change this?

You can remove some of the required fields from the admin area under configuration>>customer details. Anything else, will have to be edited from the create_account page
