Willsas Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hi we have switched hosts to webfusion but now cannot access our store, previous host advised we are running an old version of OSCommerce and we should update the software, how would we do that bearing in mind we cannot access our store? Web address http://www.foersterbusiness.co.uk/index.php And the response - Unable to connect to database server!
♥joli1811 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hi, Generally means you have got the path in include/configure.php wrong check there first. Regards Joli To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
Willsas Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Hi all we did was change the name servers and the previous host re-loaded the site they say all is well but we need to update the software as we are using an old version of oscommerce possibly 2003, just don't know the process to "Upgrade the software" Any help Joli much appreciated. Will
MrPhil Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 There are two files you have to edit to update various URLs and paths: includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php. You may also have to change the database information (location, name, user ID, password), depending on how the host transferred your database. I would get set up and working on your old (probably osC 2.2 MS2) site, and that will give you a little breathing room to upgrade to 2.3.3 (the latest version). Note that 2.2 MS2 will not work on "modern" systems (PHP 5.0 and up) without a lot of fixes, so it's even possible that your site will not run "as is". It certainly won't work on PHP 5.3, unless someone has already updated it.
♥geoffreywalton Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Phil is right. Ask your host what the name of the db is that they have created for you and the user name and password to access it and what server it is on. The directory address is probably alreay correct as you are getting an error message. Then edit the 2 files as listed above and update the server name, user, db name and password lines which are normally at the bottom of the file. you may need to change the file permissions to update the configure.php on the shop side as it is normally set to read only and this will prevent it being updated.
