Oscommerce Communication with PayPal

A year or so ago when someone purchased something from my store and made a payment in PayPal I would receive an email saying money was waiting for me. The problem back then and even now is that if someone purchases 9 different items, the sale is transferred to PayPal as a single item titled 1- The Copper Hat @ $100.00. This makes no sense when I'm trying to get an idea of what sold. I have to physically log into the site and verify what sold. May not sound like much of an issue but at the same time it gets a little old after a while and makes inventory tracking a real pain.

The store/PayPal also doesn't seem to be sending me emails anymore as people when paying give an authorization for me to take money they aren't actually sending money. I see the new orders when I log into the backside but I have to log in multiple times a day to verify new orders. I've tried the removal and re installation of the subtotal/total as mentioned in another post but to no avail. I place a new order and found the same thing, no heads up that I made a sale.

PayPal only receives the order total and accepts that on your behalf. If you require details of the items that PayPal is accepting payments for, you will need to upgrade to an IPN module or at least, enable API communication.

If your site is not sending emails telling you that someone has made a purchase, then you may need to look at your servers sendmail settings or enable SMTP mail on your osCommerce installation.
