oilzzz
I have scoured these forums and to date have been unable to find a solution for quite an easy problem (not easy for me!) My query has been brought up in bits and pieces before but alas no glory. I'm setting up a business for Australia with a flat 10% GST (tax). I wish to be able to add products with price inclusive of GST. I wish anything with sub-totals to show the total minus GST. I wish the total to show the total. For example, I input a product for $110 The sub total is $100 The GST is $10 The total is $110 Sounds simple enough but it has been a nightmare for me over the past week. Guest
Depending on the version you are using, you can do this through the admin panel. In product info - add price WITHOUT TAX. Then go into admin, and in configuration-My store - activate the "Display Prices with Tax" Your customers will see the price with the tax when they view a product, and during checkout they will be given a subtotal without tax, tax will be added, and then a final total will be given. This is how it is set up in MS1

oilzzz
I would have preferred to just put the retail price in I wanted instead of working out the price ex-GST for each item. It means sitting down with a calculator for every update on every item. There used to be a view with tax on/off as highlighted elsewhere but these options are notincluded anymore (late CVS)
Snowman
Dont forget however that the system is designed for world wide use and sales anf that GST only applies to Oz customers.
dvdvideo
2cents worth :) My store is in New Zealand and we have GST like Aust now does. All you need do is say that all products are gst inclusive We sell into Australlia and never worry about the GST Customers quite happily pay it if the product is something they want. I had thought of doing it as suggested, prices without gst added but dont really see the reason its required. Cheers Paul
blowfish
Dont forget however that the system is designed for world wide use and sales anf that GST only applies to Oz customers. I might be wrong here but I think you will find Snowman, that any Australian business running a business online only charges GST and doesn't worry about overseas taxes. When an Australian business buys wholesale products/materials they pay GST on them. Even if they come from overseas you pay gst when they come through customs. So to get the GST back an Australian business will charge all customers, overseas as well, the 10% GST. This way the Taxman is Gauranteed that they will get !0% on every product sold. The wholealer/retailer will pass the 10% tax for every product bought untill the customer pays the 10%. I have never seen an online Australian business that needs to worry about taxes in other countries, If you buy from an Australian company you pay the 10% GST and the product is mailed to you, any foriegn taxes are the purchases problem. As I said I may be wrong (I will check with my accountant) . So looks like us Australians may need a Mod for the taxes.
