would like to change up the category menu I have placed in my left column with a vertical menu that I can style independent of the jquery theme

 

how do I eliminate the hold jquery has on the current categories menu?

 

have looked at several category menu contributions, the superfish contrib seems closest to what i am hoping for, but it doesn't seem to work with a 2.3.1 store?

 

Searched the Add-Ons, didn't come across vertical just horizontal menu fixes.

 

Tried the categories accordion, but issues with the page reload, every click of the mouse, had to use the jquery theme as used throughout store.

 

Goal is to have a menu that more ressembles the boxes around it and not the rest of the function buttons throughout store; simple text with a background color, yet the categories heading still uses the style set for the rest of the page's boxes.

 

I would be estatic if I could change only the background & text color of the categories box, is it possible to simultaneously run two different jquery themes on same store.
