Jquery and Button Theory

I have the categories accordian menu contribution running on my 2.3.1 store. What I am hoping to accomplish is to have the categories buttons match the header columns that have been set using Themeroller, yet the other function buttons like "Continue Shopping" and "Add to Cart" have a color/style to call all their own, different from the catagories buttons. Have tried several suggestions from the best guys here on the forum, but are unable to get the darn buttons to behave as desired.

 

I searched not only the OScommerce forums, but went out to Jquery and css slanted forums (can get real confusing,) attempting several of the suggestions found, still no joy!

 

I have a thought; when viewing the Jquery .css file's code, there is a primary & and a secondary code for the button's changing coloration states. is it possible to add an additional state, aiming this new state specifically at the categories accordian menu?

 

Seems the more I read, the more one guy sez certain code will conflict with certain other code, then another gives a whole new and suposedly simpler, way to make the desired happen, hence I sit here in a quandry!

 

Has anyone tackled this issue, maybe have a way of coming to grips with what seems a Jquery shortcoming?
