Order statuses: pending & paypal [transactions] stages mean?

Hello,

 

My products are for download. What do the pending and paypal [transactions] order statuses cover- can't find clear answer. I am in 2.3version.

 

Understanding I can gather is:

pending means customer made a card payment?

preparing- customer about to enter payment stage

processing- payment made

 

Does paypal [transations] mean they paid via paypal account?

 

Pending status seems to cause a lot of problems for download stores - so best to enable download here too.... or does/can it be need to be removed....not touching if messes up shop!!

The easiest way to get downloads working correctly is to install the super download addon. It adds two more order statuses, and also fully automates the system allowing customers to get immeadiate downloads of their purchases. In standard oscommerce, downloads are only available once you change the order status from pending to delivered.

 

Paypal transactions means item has been paid through paypal. Pending means the customer has added the item to their cart, but not completed the transaction. If you enable downloads at the pending state, you will be giving away items as the customer will not have completed the transaction, but will receive the download.

Thanks Steve that makes them clearer! Yes have seen super download planning to add it in a while as there was a lot of code to change and see some people have probs after install so will leave it a little while.

 

My sale is a simple download of a document at the end of checkout so will muddle along for a bit with clunky current process. Hope it is sorted on the next update though. Silly system.

Downloads is one of the many areas where oscommerce needs a realy good overhall. I hope something is done in the newest version.
