Can't login to Admin on new install v.2.3 (Re-direct Loop Error)

Hi,

I've just been trying to install version 2.3 and I'm getting:

"Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked."

 

I have version v.2.2 MS2 running and wanted to start fresh with v.2.3, because my website host is upgrading to PHP 5 and v.2.2 won't run on PHP 5. I wanted to install the new version before they upgrade to PHP 5 so I can copy some of the products across using the Easy Populate module, saving me quite a few hours of work, and able to keep the old version still running would be very little store down time. But when i install v.2.3 and go to /admin/login.php I get the redirect loop error message.

 

I've tried looking at the admin/includes/application_top.php file and changed line 152 "$redirect = true;" to "$redirect = false;", which somehow stops the redirect loop error, but then doesn't allow me to login using my login details. Plus the links are broken, so it's showing text as "HEADING_TITLE" and "TEXT_USERNAME". No success there.

Then I tried blocking out lines 123 to 165 in admin/includes/application_top.php which then allows me to access admin/index.php without a username/password, but then it doesn't allow me to write any files and the left side navigation is missing.

 

It's a bit of a problem, and I'm thinking is there any solutions out there?

I now worried that when the website host upgrades to PHP 5, will v.2.3 work? Or will I get the same problem coming up?

 

Any suggestions would be very helpful.
