The e-commerce.

Wordpress, osCommerce and Barclays ePDQ

Hello osCommerce world,

This is my first post, so please go easy on me! :-)

I am building an e-commerce website.

I built the skeleton of the website using WordPress.

I was delighted when I discovered the osCommerce plugin for WordPress. as I have used osCommerce before,

so I quickly installed that. Then I got a merchant account from my bank Barclays called ePDQ.

So I thought I had all the pieces of the puzzle, apparently not,

I need another piece of software to act as a "bridge" between osCommerce and ePDQ.

I found a ePDQ CPI Module from aqua technologies, but it came with the worst installation instructions ever.

They are so bad are they I can only conclude it must of been deliberate.

Can anyone help me? I need a piece of software that will "bridge" from osCommerce to Barclays ePDQ.

Something thats easy to install.

I don't want to pay £250 for someone else to configure software for me.

I could do it myself if the instructions weren't so deliberately obscure.

Thanks in advance

The oscommerce (fork) plug in for word press is not supported on this forum. I suggest you seek support on the word press forum.

Hi Chris

Are you sure that's the best course of action? After all WordPress is simply a "wrapper" for osCommerce and I don't see what bearing it would have? Unless of course you can prove otherwise?

Forks of osCommerce are not supported at this forum.

You need to seek support for that fork from the fork creators.

I could do it myself if the instructions weren't so deliberately obscure.

Perhaps the instructions are not clear simply because someone does indeed want you to;

pay £250 for someone else to configure software for me.

Hi Chris

Are you sure that's the best course of action?

This isn't my policy, this is forum policy.

And, the Wordpress version of osCommerce is significantly different than the original osCommerce found on this website, enough to actually call it a fork of osCommerce. So, once again. You should seek support from the Wordpress forum for best responses.

Thanks everyone for your help,

I appreciate you have your forum rules, but maybe an inclusive and holistic approach is best for customer growth, retention and satisfaction???

I will look elsewhere

Thanks everyone.

What you are asking is for the very few people who know osCommerce inside out and give support here (that amounts to less than 10 people) to know the codebase of every other oscommerce derivative, and provide support for those forks (even though the underlying codebase is really nothing like the product it was originally based on).

Surely you can see a problem right there?

customer growth, retention and satisfaction

osCommerce does not have customers. What it does have;

- 1000s of users worldwide

- 10s of developers

How can you get support that is commensurate to your level of knowledge?

1. There is a support ticketing system for expedited support direct from the creator of osCommerce

2. There are a number of commercial sponsors, including developers, who are happy to quote you on a commercial basis

3. There is a commercial support forum where you can ask for quotations from commercial and community sponsors

4. There is this forum full of amateur coders who can chop up a line or two of PHP

5. There are numerous external sites should none of the above float your boat.

Thank you for your reply. I can understood and have taken on-board your advice, thank you.

I understand the points you have made, but none of them counter my point that an inclusive and holistic approach should be taken. I feel I have a valid point.

The fact I have to look in many places rather than one place for a solution IMHO weakens osCommerce.

Put it another way, if one of your competitors adapted their site to include and provide points 1-5 you listed above then wouldn't they be providing a better service?

Hey osCommerce could even charge developers for a spot on their site.

The fact I have to suggest this to you and your seeming unwillingness to adapt (i.e. you refer me elsewhere) could be your downfall.

Ultimately none of this matters, its evolutionary and a new stronger alternative could win out and dominate the market.

Its just I have a particular like for osCommerce and I wish to see it succeed.

If I am an exception rather than the norm then I admit that I am irrelevant and I still genuinely thank you for you help, it is appreciated.

Best Regards

I'm not sure it does weaken osCommerce. If I had to know all the ins and outs of the 10 or so derivatives of osCommerce, I am 100% sure that my osC knowledge would take a hit.

1-4 is already offered here. 5 could never be (anywhere!).

It does.

I don't need to adapt. I have no say in what osCommerce (the software) is or how osCommerce (the entity) does.

Its just I have a particular like for osCommerce and I wish to see it succeed.

I "liked" your post. I do believe that most people want what is best for osCommerce, but what is best for one set of users may not be best for another...

Thank you for a good counter argument without resorting to insults (as I so often encounter elsewhere)

I doth my cap to thee! :-)

Sincerely thank you for your help

@@LordLiverpool Coming to this a little late, but is not your original post about integrating EPDQ into your OSC and the fact that you cant do this because of the badly worded install instructions?

I have installed that add-on in my 2.2 and 2.3.1 sites and it does work - what problems are you having with the install?

Now running on a fully modded, Mobile Friendly 2.3.4 Store with the Excellent MTS installed - See my profile for the mods installed ..... So much thanks for all the help given along the way by forum members.
