I think after osCommerce v3.1 would be the most wanted if start to produce. I see approximately 28% now of osCommerce or their clones. It is clear that templates very important. This would be very big chance in the future and its time to work more hard for it.

osCommerce based shop owner with minimal design and focused on background works. When the less is more.
Email managment with tracking pixel, package managment for shipping, stock management, warehouse managment with bar code reader, parcel shops management on 3000 pickup points without local store.

I feel the same as you and I'm doing "culture" with all that I am about the future of oscommerce.

Today oscommerce is the only solution really open source. The competitor like magento (opensource source is abandonned I think), prestashop has a lot of difficulties with their business model, have lot of monnaie to develop a communication process and lobbying

these companies, but also the web agencies tried to kill oscommerce, I see a lot of article in this case. But oscommerce is always alive and always in good position (it's amazing). Promove Oscommerce is no good for their business model.

Oscommerce is simple and a newbizz can learn easily php, use magento or prestashop is impossible (will be also the same thing for the latest oscommerce 3, lot of people does'nt understand the object programmation). All the coders understand that, this is for that it' prefer use prestashop or magento.

But, oscommerce 2 has not evoluated also (it's a big error, in my opinion), the functions are simple and not adapted at the customer's demand and let an open field for the others solutions and fork.

I have lot of respect for Harald and for this community. She is strong and this strong is very important.

When I began 2001 Oscommerce, i don't understand the philosophy and now with an oscommerce 2, I can propose the same solution than a prestashop with no destroy the code.

I am happy to know this solution. it's really a great solution.

@@Gyakutsuki :

oscommerce 3 is really simple, all you need to do is understand structure.

But since 2 years, harald is insisting on putting the cart before the horse.

he thinks the documentation of his framework is optional, (personnaly, i can't imagine build a website with symfony2 framework without its cookbook).

and that's one of several reasons that there is such a lack interest of developpers for his project.

by the way, sometimes, i think that oscommerce is a personnal project, shared with a community. We are so far away from a real community project.

Documentation will be taken very seriously for v3.1. It is not being worked on now as the v3.0 framework API is still changing and improving.

In addition, one of the new sites we want to setup is to manage the Documentation. The existing Confluence site was ok to use but there is no integration with the rest of the site. The Documentation section added here on the forum is really a poor solution as formatting the text takes a very very long time.

I imagine the new Documentation site to pull content from markdown formatted text files that are hosted at GitHub. This will make writing documentation fun, easy, and will easily allow people to contribute and to translate.

, osCommerce

Yes, you are true, just i haven'nt the time for that.

Originally i am not a programmer and object programmation is also simple to understand and to use.

But I will try :) if I have a moment for that.

The documentation is very important, osc 2 haven't a good documentation but the code is simple to understand. I don't if it's the same for osc3
