Problems emailing from the store

FreeBSD 7.3-RELEASE-p2

PHP Version 5.2.17

Default setting uses "sendmail"

Sends "email order confirmation" to customer

Sends "extra order notification" to store owner

However "contact form" fails to send email (no email is received by store owner)

If I change over to "SMTP"

"contact form" delivers email to store owner

However

TWO "email order confirmations" are sent to customer

TWO "extra order notifications" are sent to store owner

How do I fix this
