Hi all, I have tried to change the attributes on these 2 files to 444 but get the following message. "550 Could not change perms on configure.php: No such file or directory" Any Ideas?

I cannot see an option for this anywhere. My hosting is with Streamline.net if anyone uses the same can advise. Thanks

Although I am not familiar with your hosting provider, their website says they use cpanel for their hosting accounts. Therefore, log into your hosting account and look for the file manager icon, click it and a directory 'tree' will show all of your files on your server. Locate the two configure.php file and change the permissions to 444 for those 2 files. If you have problems doing this, contact your hosting provider and they can do it very quickly.

Thanks for your reply Chris. I have checked on their web site and logged into my control panel but cannot find the file manager at all.

I would contact your hosting provider and ask them to change the permissions for you.

I managed to find the file manager by doing a search on Google. Apparently this can only be done on Linux servers and not on Windows servers. I also found information of a patch that can be applied on the server side after installation but I tried this and nothing works now. Errors shown are the changes I made. Re installed Oscommerce to get back to where I was. How to change file permissions?

As previously stated, contact your hosting provider to change the permissions for you. They can do it in just seconds and if you had a linux hosting plan, you could have done it in seconds as well.

ps. Windows servers are far less functional than linux servers.

Is it possible to have my site on Linux servers when I have a Windows 7 PC and software. If so I can move my site to the Linux one quite easily.

Yes, your local machines operating system does not effect your hosting account. I personally ALWAYS use Linux servers because I don't like the restrictions of Windows servers.

That solved the problem. I have had my server type changed to Linux and now I can alter the attributes of the 2 files and everything works fine. Thanks Chris for the advice.
