Need help with xampp oscommerce installation - css style not working

Hi, All:

I am new to oscommerce and am really stuck at the first steps.

I followed the instructions dowloading xampp and oscommerce 2.3.3. The installation went smoothly, but I cannot get the css style to work for any web pages at all. I googled everywhere, but could not find a fix. Some postings said to remove .htaccess file from catalog, I did that and also the .htaccess in /images folder. But only the product images started showing, no style has been applied. Initially I thought the reference to the "stylesheet.css" is wrong. But after I changed background: #fff in the body section to #fff9 in the .css file shown below, the background turned into light yellow from pure white, so I know the "stylesheet.css" is actually used and in the right place. What I don't understand is why layout is completely messed up. For example, the colume_left showing the category tree was displayed beneath the main content, instead of being aligned to its left. I also tried the same installation on two separate machines, one XP and one window 7, both show the same result. I attached a picture of the main homepage to show the problem. I am pretty sure it is something very simple to fix, but need to know what it is.

body {

background: #ff9;

background: #b0c4de;

background:url(images/flowers-backgrounds-wallpapers.jpg);

/*background-repeat:no-repeat;*/

color: #000;

margin: 0px;

font-size: 11px;

font-family: Lucida Grande, Lucida Sans, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;

}

Any help is high appreciated!

Sorry for the confusion. The body part of the .css file is set like this:

body {

background: #fff;

color: #000;

margin: 0px;

font-size: 11px;

font-family: Lucida Grande, Lucida Sans, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;

}

Not the one I mentioned in the first positng.

It looks like one or more of the jQuery files are missing. Open your site in Firefox, then right click and select View Source. Click on each of the links in the head section of the listing. If one of them comes back with a 404 message, that file is missing.

I tried your suggestion, no link showed error, clicking on every hyperlink brought up the corresponding file. Is there anything else I can try Getting desparate here. Thanks!
